BEAT 5 – CEFN-BRYN

OVERVIEW

Near the top of this beat, shallow, weedy runs provide good habitat for trout. The banks are clear, making this an ideal spot for anyone learning to fish with the fly. Deep pools in the middle of the beat are interspersed with swift glides where summer and autumn sewin can sometimes be taken in the daytime. Several of the pools are very deep and only fishable from the bank, so please take care.

Cefn-Bryn fishery comprises around 880 yards of left-bank fishing on the Teifi downstream of Cwmann. It was purchased in October 1976.

BEST FOR

This section of the river is renowned for its trout fishing. There are miles of river to explore and you will struggle to acquaint yourself with it in a season. Each twist and turn prevents something new and exciting. Given good running water, sea trout (sewin) will enter this water by mid / late summer and salmon can be found throughout the season. However, this water is best covered on the salmon and sea trout (sewin) front when there is high water, which may prevent fishing downriver.

ACCESS

The fishing can be accessed via a path from the A485 Cwmann to Llanybydder road, near the farmhouse of Cefn-Bryn.

The club has its own private car park near the access gate to this fishery. Please do not park in front of the farm gate.

The upper beat limit adjoins Llandysul’s Lampeter Fishery (Beat 4) on the left bank of the river near to Llwyn-on.

The lower beat limit, some 200 yards downstream of a point where the river runs close to the old railway track, is marked with an orange sign. There the river is deep and slow, and wading is not recommended.
