BEAT 14.1 – COEDSTRE

OVERVIEW

This very varied left-bank fishery provides good trout fishing in spring and early summer, and it is one of our best early-season sea trout fisheries – especially the large, long pool towards the top end of the beat. This pool is worth visiting the beat for and continues to hold fish throughout the season.

The lower third of the beat is shallow and fast. Above this there is a glide beneath a high bank, where some nice brown trout can be caught on dry fly or nymph. The next pool is deep, slow flowing and well shaded on the far side (the main pool), making it a first-class sea trout (sewin) pool, with salmon fishing worth a try at the neck and the tail. We also have the tail of the next pool up, which holds the occasional sea trout (sewin) in summer, but the high bank behind you makes difficult casting with a fly.

BEST FOR

A great sea trout beat, especially the large, long pool towards the top end of the fishery. There are also a myriad of little pots, runs and riffles worth fishing, especially for brown trout. The run into the main pool can be great for salmon, especially if there is a small spate coming through.

ACCESS

Access to the Coedstre fishery is via a farm track that leads down off the main road. There is room for no more than one car on the widened verge near the entry track (or the small layby opposite). This is a busy road, so please park your car safely and take care when crossing the road.
