BEAT 13A – TANYCOED

OVERVIEW

The Tanycoed Fishery offers something for everyone. The stretch opposite our car park provides good trout fishing and, because the banks are clear and low, it is ideal for beginners learning to cast.

The lower three hundred yards of the beat holds sea trout all through the season, as do the pools toward the top of the fishery.

For salmon fishers, there are few pools on the Teifi that can challenge Pwll Du (Black Pool), just downstream from Tan-y-coed Farmhouse.

Beat 13A, comprising two miles of single-bank fishing on the left (Carmarthenshire) bank of the Teifi between Pentrecwrt and Llandysul, was purchased by the Association in May 1995.

BEST FOR

A great mixed beat for both fly and spin anglers. The wading and walking along this beat is also very easy and relatively flat, which lends itself for those with mobility issues or those looking for easier wading options.

There is a superb mix of water throughout the beat, from very big and notable holding pools, through to lots of lovely runs, riffles and glides. Great beat for both daytime fishing and also targeting sea trout (sewin) at night.

The beat does fish well for salmon, sea trout (sewin) and brown trout.

ACCESS

There is a single access point to this beat from our private car park beside the A486 Pentrecwrt to Llandysul road. Opposite the gate to the car park is a stile bearing a Llandysul AA orange sign.

After crossing the stile, go directly across the field to the river bank. From there, please keep to the bank and do not cut across fields to avoid walking round meanders in the river course. (We agreed this restricted access in return for the private car park off the main road.)

If you cross over at the lower end of the fishery then this overlaps with the Dolwatts (Beat 14) Fishery, which is on the right hand bank.
