BEAT 8 – BRYNHAWC (PRYSG)

OVERVIEW

This is one of the jewels of our portfolio and one of the most scenic parts of the whole river. This is a productive fishery right from the start of the season, as spring salmon tend to rest in Jack’s Pool, and the rich ranunculus beds in the shallower stretches provide cover for trout and an abundance of insect life. The Brynhawc beat includes several famous and productive salmon and sea trout pools including Pwll Garreg Glas, Pwll Prysg, Vicar’s and Jack’s Pool. There are also some excellent brown trout stretches, especially from Pwll Prysg down through Vicar’s run to where the river enters Jack’s Pool.

The beat comprises of some 1.5 miles of single bank fishing on the right bank of the Teifi at Maesycrugiau. It was purchased in April 1975.

Please note that the top meadow where Pwll Prysg and Vicars are found is Fly Only.

BEST FOR

A fantastic allround beat for all species. It holds a good head of trout, which becomes obvious when you see the habitat present. The beat is also noted for salmon and does fish well over different water levels. There are some fantastic and historic holding pools present.

ACCESS

Access to the beat is via a stile that is located alongside the bridge at Pontllwni, Maesycrugiau – the house side of the bridge, right bank. The beat starts some 100 metres up from the bridge, where a small stream enters the main river. This is not the easiest of beats to access and is not recommended for those that are not firm on their feet.
